One of the songs that I thoroughly enjoy is on Hillsong’s A Beautiful Exchange album. The Father’s Heart.
The only issue I see with this song is that it assumes the Father’s mission is to save the lost. That’s only a small part of it, but the song is true nonetheless. I love the chorus, but the verses are what get me.
When the walls close in around me Let Your glory light the darkness of my night When the sufferings all that I see May I walk with You by faith and not by sight. On the road of sweet surrender I have nothing but to offer You my life Greater love I have not found it All by mercy You have eased this troubled mind. Humble King, You go before me By Your grace I stand for everything that’s true Through your Son I am made worthy There’s no other who can love me like You do.
I love each of these verses. This is probably the only song I have ever belted out until I couldn’t breathe. To me it’s that good of a song. My favorite lines from the verses above though,
When the walls close in around me Let Your glory light the darkness of my night.
Those verses carry special meaning for me. There are times when I have most certainly felt alone in the darkness, no one near me or with me at all. But God is still lighting my darkness up, and it’s by His glory. The glory that he has placed inside of us. He dwells within us. From within us, He is a light unto our path. I cannot begin to express just how amazing this part of the verse is.
Humble King, You go before me By Your grace I stand for everything that’s true Through your Son I am made worthy There’s no other who can love me like You do.
The simple fact that God stepped into time should blow your mind. Even more so, the fact that he did it in the form of a common man. He was anything but, but that was how He entered. He did not enter as a triumphant King, He entered as a humble King. One who didn’t consider himself to be exalted. It’s cliche, but critical, when we couldn’t get to Him, He came to us. His Father chose a Bride that was bruised, violated, and pitiful, and when Jesus paid the bride-price, He brought His bride to a new realm.
We are made worthy in the eyes of God because of Jesus. Because we are in Jesus, and He is in us, we are highly prized in the eyes of a jealous God. This jealous God will let no other have his prize.
I’ve posted a video of the song below, and I would encourage you to just listen to it, hit play and close your eyes. Put head phones on, and just listen. Don’t watch it. Really think about the lyrics. Really let them sink in, ask God to open them up to you. Very recently they very nearly brought me to tears thinking about what they meant.
The fact that we have such a God, may we always run back to Him. For He is the One, the Hope of the Nations, the great Healer, no where else will we find satisfaction. May we constantly live for Him.
So be it.
